Privacy Policy
What this site collects, in plain words.
Nothing on this site asks who you are. The contact form is the only place you type in personal details, and it goes straight to my inbox.
Ontario Fisherman is a personal fishing website. It doesn’t sell anything, doesn’t run ads, has no accounts to sign up for and no email list. This page explains, in plain words, the little information the site does collect and what happens to it.
The Contact Form
If you use the contact form, you give your name, your email address and your message. The form sends those to my email inbox so I can read your message and write back. The website itself doesn’t save your message anywhere.
Your email is only used to reply to you. It’s never added to a mailing list, sold or shared.
Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful: things like how many people read a page, roughly where in the world visits come from, and what kind of device was used. It doesn’t tell me who you are.
Google Analytics sets small cookies in your browser to tell a new visit from a returning one. According to Google, in the current version of Analytics IP addresses are not logged or stored. Google’s own handling of that data is covered by Google’s privacy policy.
If you’d rather not be counted, you can block cookies in your browser settings or use Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on. The site works the same either way.
Fonts
The lettering on this site comes from Google Fonts. When a page loads, your browser downloads the fonts from Google’s servers, the same way it would download a picture from any other website.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like nearly every web host, their servers keep basic technical logs of requests, such as the IP address and the page asked for, which are used to keep the site secure and running.
Cookies
Apart from the Google Analytics cookies above, the site doesn’t set cookies for visitors. There are no logins for visitors, no comments and no shopping cart.
Links to Other Websites
Many pages link to other sites, such as the Ontario government’s fishing regulations, tournament organizers and fishing clubs. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
Questions or Requests
If you’ve sent a message through the contact form and want it deleted from my inbox, or you have any question about this page, email don@ontariofisherman.ca.
If anything about how the site collects information changes, this page will be updated.
